The Miners present The Northwest Territories - Go experience it!

The Northwest Territories is Canada's 2nd largest territory. There are about 41,000 people living in 33 communities in NWT. There are eight official languages: English, French, Chipewyan, Dogrib, South Slavey, North Slavey, Gwich'in and Inuvialuktun (the last six are native languages). Mining is a major part of the NWT economy. They mine for minerals, diamonds, oil and gas. The longest river in Canada, the Mackenzie River, runs through NWT. It also has two of the largest lakes in Canada: Great Slave and Great Bear Lakes. Boreal forests, rugged mountains, tundra and hundreds of lak
es and rivers can be found in the Northwest Territories. The NWT has a relatively dry cold climate with long winters and warm summers with plenty of sunshine. Temperatures range from a high of 35C in the summer to a low of minus 45C in the winter.

INTERESTING PLACES TO VISIT IN THE NORTHWEST TERRITORIES

The Northern Lights - where, when and what.
Where can we see the northern lights? The Northern Lights, as the name suggests, are especially related to the polar regions. They occur most frequently in a belt of radius 2500 km centered on the magnetic north pole. This so-called auroral zone extends over northern Scandinavia, Island, the southern tip of Greenland and continuing over northern Canada, Alaska and along the northern coast of Siberia. The coasts of the Norwegian counties of Troms and Finnmark lay where occurrence is greatest, making northern Norway, due to its ease of access and mild winter climate, an attractive destination for people interested in observing this atmospheric phenomenon. The Northern Lights can be seen from regions both north and south of the auroral zone, but the likelihood decreases with distance. There is a corresponding auroral zone around the southern magnetic pole, but these “Southern Lights” are largely only seen from Antarctica and the surrounding ocean. Of the populated regions in the southern hemisphere, the Southern Lights, may only be glimpsed from Tasmania and southern New Zealand. The Northern and Southern Lights occur simultaneously and are almost mirror images of each other.

The Northwest Territories is a great place to visit. An example of a place would be Wood Buffalo Country. It is located at the end of Mackenzie Highway located at the s outheastern part of Northwest Territories. A good reason why you should go to this region is because Wood Buffalo National Park is one of the largest parks on Earth. You can see buffalo roaming in this park and other endagered species. You can also kayak on the Slave River.

Another place in the Northwest Territories is the Mackenzie Valley which is located from central Northwest Territories up to the north. It is a great place to go for major-league fishing. You can also go hiking up the mountains for great scenery. A cool thing to do would be to go visit the historic fur-trading posts.
